was named Barrie in 1833 in honour of British Admiral Sir Robert
Barrie who was in charge of the Naval Forces in Canada.

It is accessible to Highways 11, 26 and the 400 Highway. The 400
Highway provides six lane access to and from Toronto, which is approximately
a one hour drive. Toronto is south of Barrie.
